The SCIA and PKU Jointly Held Conference on WTO Reform

On March 6, 2024, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (hereinafter referred to as the SCIA) and Peking University Law School jointly held Conference on Multilateral Trading System and WTO Reform, which was also a training session for SCIA panel arbitrators. More than 20 well-known experts in the field of international law from Asia, Europe and America attended the conference and delivered speeches. More than 30 representatives of SCIA panel arbitrators from home and abroad participated in the training session.

Roberto Azevêdo, SCIA Council Member, Former Director-General of WTO delivered a keynote speech titled WTO: Success and Challenges, Looking for a Way Forward. Peter Malanczuk, SCIA Council Member, Professor of University of Heidelberg and University of Hong Kong delivered a keynote speech titled Investment Facilitation Agreement (IFDA) and Plurilateral Rulemaking in the WTO.

SCIA arbitrators including Zhang Yuejiao, Former Appellate Body Member of WTO, Professor of Tsinghua University, Kong Qingjiang, Professor of China University of Political Science and Law, Dean of University of International Law School, Ji Wenhua, Professor of University of International Business and Economics, Wang Jiangyu, Professor of Law School of City University of Hong Kong, and Guan Jian, Partner of Globle-Law Law Firm joined the discussion on establishment of multilateral trade system and reform of WTO dispute settlement mechanism. David Unterhalter, Former Appellate Body Member of WTO, South African Judge of the Constitutional Court, Peter Van den Bossche, Former Appellate Body Member of WTO, Professor of University of Bern and other well-known international experts joined the discussion as well.
