Call for Papers on My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA
The Call for Contributions on "Four Decades of Shenzhen SEZ • My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA"Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (also known as the South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, previously known as the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission South China Sub-commission, and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Shenzhen Sub-commission, hereinafter the “SCIA”) was founded in 1983, resulting from the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (hereinafter the “SEZ”) of China. SCIA is the first arbitration institution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
Over the 37 years since its establishment, the SCIA has been proactively promoting the innovation and development of China's international arbitration, based in the SEZ. In 1984, the SCIA became the first Chinese arbitration institution to include foreign arbitrators on its Panel of Arbitrators. In 1989, an SCIA arbitral award, as the first Chinese arbitral award recognized and enforced by a foreign court in accordance with the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, paved the way for Chinese arbitral awards going global. The SCIA's arbitration and mediation service has extended to 119 countries and regions so far. All above, amongst others, indicate that international arbitration has become an essential part of the internationalized business environment of China, especially the SEZ.
August 26, 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the SEZ. As the SEZ international arbitration institution growing in pace with China's reform and opening up, the SCIA adheres to the well-known SEZ aspiration, i.e. "dare to hew a path, dare to run in front". The SCIA seeks to improve arbitration regime and raise its credibility and popularity by means of continuous reforms and innovations in order to create a globally first-class brand of international arbitration and to provide the world-class international commercial dispute resolution services,based in the SEZ, the Greater Bay Area and China.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the SEZ, the SCIA is calling for contributions on the theme of “Four Decades of Shenzhen SEZ • My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA”. The instructions are as follows:
I. Submission Deadline: May 20, 2020.
II. The contribution is open to everyone, especially the arbitrators, mediators, negotiators, attorneys and end users who have been involved in cases at the SCIA, as well as those who have participated in various innovations and reforms of the SCIA.
III. Theme: Four Decades of Shenzhen SEZ • My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA
IV. Requirements:
1. The contributions shall focus on the theme, reflect the innovations and developments of international arbitration in the SEZ from different perspectives based on personal experiences or those of people around, and demonstrate the SCIA‘s notions of independence, impartiality and integrity as well as its innovative, professional and efficient spirits.
2. The genres are not limited, but informal essays are recommended. The languages are to be Chinese or English, between 2,000 and 5,000 words.
3. The contribution must be a real work of the contributor. Published contributions will not be accepted. Contributions may not be published elsewhere without prior permission of the SCIA.
4. Author's name, gender, email address and cell phone number shall be indicated.
5. The author shall be responsible for the copyright and relevant legal liabilities of the contribution. The SCIA shall have the right to edit and publish the selected contributions after payment to the author, or use them for promotion purposes.
