Call for Papers on My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA

The Call for Contributions on "Four Decades of Shenzhen SEZ • My Story of International Arbitration at SCIA"

Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (also known as the South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, previously known as the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission South China Sub-commission, and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Shenzhen Sub-commission, hereinafter the “SCIA”) was founded in 1983, resulting from the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (hereinafter the “SEZ”) of China. SCIA is the first arbitration institution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Over the 37 years since its establishment, the SCIA has been proactively promoting the innovation and development of China's international arbitration, based in the SEZ. In 1984, the SCIA became the first Chinese arbitration institution to include foreign arbitrators on its Panel of Arbitrators. In 1989, an SCIA arbitral award, as the first Chinese arbitral award recognized and enforced by a foreign court in accordance with the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, paved the way for Chinese arbitral awards going global. The SCIA's arbitration and mediation service has extended to 119 countries and regions so far. All above, amongst others, indicate that international arbitration has become an essential part of the internationalized business environment of China, especially the SEZ.
