    Registration Notice of FDI Moot Shenzhen 2022

    The 3rd FDI Moot (Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot) Shenzhen will open from July 30 to 31, 2022. As a full-fledged China National Round of FDI Moot and a global qualification competition, teams from China (including Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan Region) are warmly welcomed. Moot your way!

    I. Brief Introduction

    FDI Moot is known as one of the three most famous arbitration moot court competitions in the world. FDI Moot consists of the Global Rounds (hereinafter ‘the Globals’),the Regional Rounds and the National Rounds, sharing the same case and related materials. Teams should advance to the Globals via the National Rounds or Regional Rounds.

    FDI Moot Shenzhen is the China National Round of FDI Moot organized by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (hereinafter ‘the Organizer’ or ‘SCIA’). It is the only way for Chinese teams to advance to the Globals. According to the result ranking, some participating teams will directly advance to the Globals,and some participating teams will advance to the Asia Pacific competition and compete for places in the Globals with teams from other Asian countries. The advancing quota would be decided by the Global Organizer depending on the number of registered teams.

    II. Registration Information

    1.Time: From 15 March to 1 June (08:00:00 UTC/16:00:00 UTC+8)
    2.Scope: Teams from China (including Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan Region)
    3.Fee: EUR 250 (about RMB1,986 )
    4.Approach: Via Global official website https://fdimoot.org/china
    Remarks:
    1. In principle, each institution may enter one team (the organizer may at its own discretion review and approve the registration under special circumstances, such as the teams from different campuses of the same institution).
    III. Competition System

    1. Skeleton Brief

    1) Time (National Rounds): Submission before 08:00:00 on 15 July (UTC+8)
    2) Form: Teams shall submit the skeleton briefs for the Claimant and Respondent, which are only for the arbitrator's reference and will not be marked. Points will be deducted as appropriate for those who are overdue or who fail to submit the skeleton briefs. Details will be notified by the Organizer.
    3) Note: Teams that advance to the Globals need to submit the memorials of the Claimant and the Respondent in accordance with the schedule (please refer to https://fdimoot.org).

    2. Oral Hearing

    1) Online Preliminary Round (National Rounds):
    Time: 30 to 31 July 2022 (UTC+8)
    Form: Each team may present an oral argument in at least four rounds (twice as the Claimant and twice as the Respondent).
    Advance: Approximately 16 teams will advance to the Elimination rounds, subject to adjustment according to the number of registered teams.
    2) Elimination Round (National Rounds) (The form of competition will be notified by organizer later):
    Time: 13 to 14 August (UTC+8)

    Moments of FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021


    From 30 July to 15 August 2020, SCIA hosted the FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021. The FDI Moot annual report not only recorded in detail the teams, results and supporting institutions of the competition in China hosted by SCIA, but also spoke highly of the organization of the competition in China. A total of 42 teams registered in China, accounting for 22% of the 191 registered teams in the world. China has gradually become the 'heavyweight' competition area in the world. Moreover, the 11 Chinese teams that stood out in the event came to the fore in the global competition. Among them, the representative team of the UIBE (University of International Business and Economics) won the world's fifth in Oral Rounds and the world's sixth in total score among the 70 finalists in the world. This is also the best result of Chinese teams in the Globals.

    Compared with the 2020 event, the 2021 event presents several characteristics:

    The level of the competition has been upgraded

    FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021 has been upgraded from the premoot of the Globals to a full-fledged China National Round of FDI Moot, and it is the only way for Chinese teams to advance to the Globals.

    The participating teams have been doubled

    There were 42 participating teams in FDI moot Shenzhen 2021, twice the number of the first event. At the same time, it also attracted teams from universities in the Greater Bay Area such as Hong Kong and Macao.

    The attention of the legal industry has been improved

    FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021 has not only received strong support from 26 international organizations, government agencies, internationally renowned arbitration institutions and legal professional groups, such as the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes of the World Bank Group (ICSID), the Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL RCAP), the International Court of Arbitration (ICC Court), the Department of Justice (Hong Kong), the Legal Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR Government Portal and the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen Municipality. In the meanwhile, it also received the participation and contributions of 28 colleges and universities across the country, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, the University of Hong Kong and the University of Macao, as well as 11 well-known law firms in both domestic and overseas. It shows the international, professional and innovative image of Shenzhen as the leading demonstration zone in an all-round way.

    Diversification of arbitrators

    343 legal professionals from 57 countries and regions around the world participating in the evaluation of the Moot and created an international and high-level professional competition environment for the contestants.

    Empowering the moot with the use of new technology

    The organizer cooperated with Hong Kong Electronic Business Related Arbitration and Mediation (eBRAM) as a technical support organization to provide an online platform with high confidentiality, security and convenience to ensure the smooth progress of the Moot.
