SCIA Delegation Visits the Hague Conference on Private International Law
On June 2, 2023, Dr. Liu Xiaochun, President of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (hereinafter the “SCIA”) & Executive Chairman of the South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong)(hereinafter the “SCIAHK”), led a delegation to visit Headquarters of the Hague Conference on Private International Law – Conférence de La Haye de droit international privé (hereinafter the “HCCH”). On the occasion of celebrating the 130th anniversary of the HCCH, Mr. Christophe BERNASCONI, Secretary General of the HCCH, welcomed the SCIA delegation and introduced the background and development of the HCCH, as well as the latest progress in promoting the harmonization of private international law.
Ning Zhao, Senior Legal Officer of the HCCH, Melisa Kiang, Legal Officer (representative of Hong Kong SAR to the HCCH),and other officials attended the discussion.
Founded in 1893, the HCCH is a specialized intergovernmental organization, the mandate of which is “the progressive unification of the rules of private international law” It is named after the conference address in The Hague, the Netherlands. As the most productive and influential international organization in the harmonization of conflict of laws and procedural law, the HCCH has 91 members (including 90 countries and one regional economic organization, the European Union). China joined the HCCH on July 3, 1987.
This visit is an important step to enhance international legal collaborations and foster exchanges between the SCIA and the HCCH, following the visit of SCIA to the HCCH Asia-Pacific Regional Office on February 24, 2023 in Hong Kong.
