    Seminar on the Latest Practice of Investor-State Arbitration is Held at the SCIA Tower in Qianhai

    On June 28, 2024, a seminar themed “Latest Practice of Investor-state Arbitration: Protections for Chinese Investors’ Overseas Investments and Damage Quantification in Investor-State Arbitration” was held at the SCIA Tower in Qianhai, Shenzhen, which was jointly hosted by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Taylor Wessing, Oxera, Hui Zhong Law Firm, and specially supported by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA).
    The seminar invited senior lawyers and industry experts from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Oxera, and Hui Zhong Law Firm, along with representative arbitrators from the SCIA, to discuss and share insights on hot and challenging topics on fair treatment for Chinese enterprises investing overseas, damage quantification in international investor-state arbitration, compliance and treaty protection of international investor-state arbitration. Over 70 legal counsels, practicing lawyers, and university scholars participated in the event.



    Huang Guoyong, Director of International Cooperation and Development Department of the SCIA delivered the welcoming address at the seminar.


    Zhou Yuhao, Chartered Financial Analyst and Senior Counselor from Oxera moderated the keynote speech session.


    Nicholas Lingard, Partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, delivered a keynote speech on “Fair and Equitable Treatment of Chinese Investors Abroad: Case Studies in Protecting Foreign Investment”.


    Dr. Min Shi, Partner of Oxera, gave a speech on “Damage Quantification in Investor-State Arbitration”.


    Yang Xueyu, Partner of Hui Zhong Law Firm and SCIA Arbitrator, spoke on “Compliance and Treaty Protection in Investor-State Arbitration”.


    Dr. Dini Sejko, Arbitrator and Conciliator at ICSID and Lecturer at the Business School of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, moderated the panel discussion themed on “How to Use Arbitration as a Tool to protect Overseas Investments”.
