SCIA Delegation Visits Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry
A delegation from the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), led by its President and Executive Chairman of South China International Arbitration Center (HK) (SCIA HK) Dr. Liu Xiaochun, visited Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) on 18 Oct 2024.
They held discussions on enhancing international commercial arbitration cooperation and serving investment and economic cooperation between China and Malaysia with MITI’s Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong.
Liew recognized the legal development of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in China, and expressed interest in further strengthening the international arbitration exchanges and cooperation with Shenzhen.
Dr. Liu Xiaochun said that, as a fruit of China’s reform and opening-up and the construction of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the SCIA will further enhance exchanges with Malaysia’s business and legal communities, and innovate cooperation methods to promote the economic and trade development of both countries.
Officials from MITI Service Development and Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations Departments; staffs from the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government Foreign Affairs Office; SCIA President Assistant and Director of International Cooperation and Development Department Huang Guoyong; the SCIA Arbitrators Lin Yifei and Huang Hai; and Chief Executive Officer of the Asian International Arbitration Center (AIAC) in Malaysia Datuk Almalena Sharmila Johan participated in the exchange.
During their stay in Malaysia, the SCIA delegation also paid a visit to the Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese embassy in Malaysia Zheng Xuefang.
China is Malaysia’s largest trading partner. In 2023, the bilateral trade volume between China and Malaysia reached $ 190.24 billion, with China exporting $ 87.38 billion and importing $ 102.86 billion.
From January to August this year,
the two sides’ bilateral trade volume reached $ 135.23 billion, an 11 percent
year-on-year increase.
